Juicio de Ángel Carromero en Cuba

El Secretariado Permanente de la Red Latinoamericana y del Caribe para la Democracia (Redlad) hace un llamado a la transparencia e independencia judicial en Cuba, luego de la sentencia emitida contra Ángel Carromero, acusado de conducir el auto que colisionó en el accidente en el que murió Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas en 2012.
Oswaldo, fue un activista disidente cubano, fundador y organizador del Proyecto Varela de solicitud de reformas al gobierno cubano, fue galardonado por parte del Parlamento Europeo con el premio Andrei Sajarov a los Derechos Humanos en 2002 y candidato al Premio Nobel de la Paz en cinco ocasiones.
Pese a que se ha dicho que su muerte ha sido un accidente automovilístico, sus familiares manifiestan que no fue accidental. Carromero, fue condenado a 4 años de prisión y se encuentra en España desde el 29 de diciembre de 2012, con el fin de cumplir su condena. Todo ello, a pesar de que de las evidencias presentadas en su contra fueron muchas veces contradictorias y la defensa no tuvo siquiera el espacio para presentar un informe pericial, ni tuvo acceso a las pruebas argumentadas por la Fiscalía.
Cabe destacar que se poseen testigos que se encuentran fuera de Cuba tales como Aron Modig, del Partido Democratacristiano Sueco que viajaba junto a Angel Carromero.
La familia de Oswaldo, en un reciente comunicado manifestó su desconfianza hacia el ente judicial cubano argumentando que la denuncia “… la presenta los mismos órganos de la Seguridad del Estado del gobierno que lo han amenazado (a Oswaldo) con matarlo múltiples veces a través de sus agentes durante todos estos años" (...) "los mismos que han colocado micrófonos sobre nuestra cama en cajas telefónicas, los mismos que, sabiendo que su madre tenía cáncer la visitaron para intimidarla…”.
Igualmente, ABC de España, publicó la existencia de mensajes de texto “SMS” enviados por Aron Modig y Angel Carromero en los cuales, desde sus celulares, alertaban que fueron perseguidos y golpeados hasta ocasionarles la colisión vehicular.
El Secretariado Permanente de la Redlad, plataforma de impulso a la democracia y los derechos humanos integrada por más de 450 organizaciones, Miembro Oficial del Foro de Sociedad Civil de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) y Capítulo Regional del World Movement for Democracy (WMD):
* Insta al gobierno cubano a la realización de procesos judiciales transparentes, justos y basados en evidencias sin intimidación del acusado.
* Hace un llamado a los gobiernos democráticos del mundo para que luego de observar con cautela el proceso judicial sucedido, soliciten la instauración de una Comisión Internacional Independiente integrada por notables personalidades políticas y jurídicas, que si bien no podrá tener acceso a los testigos y las evidencias periciales en Cuba si el gobierno se niega a brindarla, si puede convocar a testigos fuera de la isla.
* Solicita a la Sociedad Civil organizada que se manifieste a favor de un proceso judicial justo llevado a cabo por una Comisión, cuyo desarrollo incluya el interrogatorio de testigos clave, derecho a la defensa y evidencias claras.

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (Redlad) calls for transparency and judicial independence in Cuba, after the judgment rendered against Angel Carromero, charged with driving the car that crashed in the accident who died Oswaldo Paya Sardinas in 2012.
Oswaldo, was a Cuban dissident activist, founder and organizer of the Projecto Varela that was asking the application of government reforms in Cuba, Paya was also awarded by the European Parliament with Andrei Sakharov prize for human rights in 2002 and candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize five times.
Although it is said that his death was a car accident, their families say it were not accidental. Carromero, was sentenced to four years in prison and is in Spain since December 29, 2012, to serve his sentence. All this, despite the evidence presented against him were often contradictory and the defense did not even have the space to present an expert report, nor had access to the evidence that the prosecution argued.
Is important clarify the existence of witnesses who are outside of Cuba such as Aron Modig, member of the Swedish Christian Democratic Party who was traveling with Angel Carromero.
Oswaldo's family, in a recent statement expressed distrust of the judicial body Cuban arguing that "... is presented by the same organs of State Security of the government that have threatened (to Oswaldo) tried to kill him multiple times through their agents"(...) "the same that have placed microphones on our bed, in telephone boxes, the same as, knowing her mother has cancer were visited her for to intimidate her... ".
Similarly, ABC of Spain, published the existence of text messages "SMS" posted by Aron Modig and Angel Carromero where, from their mobile phones, warned that they were persecuted and beaten to cause their vehicular collision.
The Permanent Secretariat of Redlad, platform to promotion of democracy and human rights comprising for more than 450 organizations, official member of the Civil Society Forum of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Regional Chapter of World Movement for Democracy (WMD ):
* Urges the Cuban government to carry out judicial processes transparent, fair and based on evidence without intimidation of the defendant.
* It calls for the democratic governments of the world to observe carefully the case, requesting the establishment of an independent international commission composed of political and legal notables, that although he may not have access to witnesses and evidence in Cuba if the government refuses to provide it, if can to call witnesses outside the island.
* Requests organized civil society to manifest in favor of a fair judicial process conducted by a committee whose development includes the questioning of key witnesses, the right to defense and clear evidence.
